  • Thank you 🙂
There are some things there I’d not thought of. I’ll add them to my list. I really want him to go into this with his eyes open as it will be a big change for him and I think he’ll be surprised (shocked?!) when he has to pay for his own laptop and mobile, to name but two things your reply has made me think about.

  • A few that spring to mind

Home office type costs even if it’s just for admin and invoicing so stationery, computer and software, telephones, printers etc.
Travel insurance. Assume it’s just UK as you said car so doesn’t need to think about visas, passports etc
Bank charges if there’s a business account.
Any accountancy or other professional…[Read more]

  • I’m trying to get as much info as possible before OH speaks to accountant (who is proving elusive) and before he accepts the job he’s been offered. I’m trying to work what you have to pay as a self employed – limited company or LLP, depending on elusive accountant’s advice – that might overlap or differ from being an employee.

    I’ve thought o…[Read more]

  • My three have two dog runs on concrete with a big hutch at one end and hay bales and a big log at the other. I give them other toys too from time to time but they mostly eat them in the end!

To get around them not having access to grass I pick grass, dandelion, chickweed, docks, sow thistle, groundsel etc for them twice a day as well as veg…[Read more]

  • My sister has two big rabbits. Her OH built a huge hutch for them – it’s enormous and has two levels with ramps up/ down, tyres containing hay and grass / soil for them to dig. It’s weather proofed (removable so can come off in good weather), has a large hutch inside and outdoor space. It is situated on concrete because otherwise they dig.

    They…[Read more]

  • When I first got a rabbit and he lived outside, I had his run on stable matting, as the concrete was too abrasive.

They do need a big (covered) run as they need lots of space to play. If you do want them outside, having a shed with an adjoining run is a good set up.

Mine quickly became a house rabbit, and its so lovely to see them run and play.…[Read more]

  • Depending on where you live, if it’s town/city (at a guess with not much garden) dont leave them unsupervised in a run, they are likely to get stolen.

  • I have two house rabbits, they are fabulous pets but need much more interaction and care than most realize! If you get them from a rescue then they should already be neutered, which they need to be.
To give you an idea of space, mine have the run of the upstairs when I am in and my whole bedroom all the time- under my bed is their warren!
    They…[Read more]

  • My bunny has the whole garden and sleeps in the shed- the amount they move around is amazing- please don’t keep yours in a hutch. They also love to nibble on a variety of grasses/ shrubs.

  • They need massive amounts of space, the bog standard hutches sold I know everyone Pets at Home are frankly cruel. Please go onto a proper rabbit forum and see the set up people recommend. You should have runs for them, as big as possible

  • If you keep their run on grass you will have to watch them carefully because rabbits dig and can easily get out that way. They can also climb and jump, surprisingly! I had one inveterate escapologist who would actually leap over the side of his run so I had to make a secure roof for it.

  • I’m considering adopting a pair, my one question is does their run need to be kept on grass as I have a small garden with not a great deal of grass.. any tips would be great for looking after them??

  • I ate all manner of rubbish as a kid. But I was out all day moving around. And out with the dog in the evenings.
Playing fields are being sold off and competition and the rough and tumble of sports and PE in school is not encouraged.
Kids stay indoors and play computer games. EVERY sport and hobby is struggling to attract young people.
    Parents are…[Read more]

  • I’m really not sure it’s that simple TBH – I don’t eat rubbish (well, not often) or large portions, and apart from breakfast and a lunchtime snack I have a modest main meal once a day. And I do 2 hours physical labour at the yard every day, don’t drink and am pretty much always on the go (no idea how I found time to work lol) but the weight will…[Read more]

The good thing is, due to intervention from govt, smoking has reduced by 2 million since the ban. In 2008 smoking cost the NHS £5B. 10 years on, the health economy benefits will take more time to quantify but this is an interesting read…http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-40444460

  • Most people have no idea how many calories they are consuming, and what those calories are made of. Sugar and salt are extremely yummy, added to carbohydrate and its addictive.
If you go into a supermarket just look at the proportion of the shelves are made up of high calories low nutrition foods, yes you have to make the choice to eat them but…[Read more]

  • I do think they should be encouraged produce healthier products where they can.

Along with excessive levels of chemical preservative, sugars, salt, saturated fat etc. I think we are on the right track with what people expect now a days, but got a long way to go.

I’m not taking about sweets, pizzas etc, those are choices people make. But simple…[Read more]

@frogface I don’t see it in that way. The way I see it, is that the food manufacturers are producing foods that are surplus to requirements and are making you and a quarter of the population (NICE Epidimiology Report 2012) unhealthy. That in turn is causing you and that population to have health problems that need medical care which costs the NHS…[Read more]

  • @luke So I’m not allowed to buy food I want because the company is told not to make it because other people have no self control? Is that what you are suggesting?

If not, how do you propose to fine Mars or Ginsters for the person who eats three when I eat one?
