yeah thats it exactly, there’s a time to push yourself physically, but theres also times where it will just set you back for no overall advantage and just set you back in the long term.
When i was injured, it really annoyed my, but at the same time, it make me take a few steps back and I had to slow down. It gave me time to focus on getting my…[Read more]

Just looked into it and it says no transfers. I will just have to suck it up and enter again next year. I know I could make my body get round as I’m so bloody minded but I think I’d end up a mess and likely set back any other training I want to do.

Sadly I think the sensible option is to withdraw. Remember a HM isn’t easy at the best of times- I’m in the middle of marathon training and did a half on Sunday, it was hard work and I’ve run up to and over HM distance 3 times in the past month. Can you transfer entry to next year?

i know how it feels. i used to do trialthlons and had to give them up due to injury. It’s a very difficult transition if you are someone who is used to pushing and challenging yourself. But at the end of the day, you could do yourself worse damage by being reckless with your body. Being harsh, the prep you are doing is nowhere near enough to be…[Read more]

I hate feeling like I’m quitting. I have a chiropractors appointment tomorrow and will discuss it with him, he’s the only person who takes a real interest but doesn’t seem to be able to help. The existing injury is annoying me at the moment, two years is far too long to put exercise on hold and so I’m getting depressed and frustrated. But I do…[Read more]

i’d withdraw too. not worth annoying an existing injury. Have you chatted to a physio about level of work you should be doing? With your injuries I would imagine runnign would be very jarring and could be making things work.

To be frank I would probably withdraw as you will run the risk of really hurting yourself. If you were healed from your injuries I would be more inclined to say go and have a jog but a half marathon will not be fun for an already problematic neck.

Looking for realistic advice, although I think I know what people will say! I did a half marathon last autumn and my training did not go to plan due to a neck injury, so I did about 4 x 5km runs, one 9 mile walk/run and one 14 mile walk/run. Really bad prep but I jogged around my first ever half marathon in 2hrs 39mins without stopping to walk and…[Read more]

Put the batteries in tonight and left them for a bit. They chirped a couple of times in the first 5 mins but haven’t for the last 4 hours. Double checked and they’re not CO alarms, just smoke so I don’t think it’s CO. Also checked the CO alarm and it’s working so I think the next step will have to be an electrician. Will ask fire service for a che…[Read more]

It might be worth getting someone from the fire service out with their detector – they can tell you what your CO levels are right away. Friends of mine moved into a house and the alarms went off in the night. Fire service found high levels of CO, coming from the unused chimneys. It can build up even when things aren’t being used much.
Otherwise…[Read more]

Our carbon monoxide alarm wasn’t going off – but the smoke alarm was chirping occasionally for a couple of hours at a time. Please, do get your boiler checked. Ours is, every year, but this still happened – and less than 6 months after the boiler was serviced.

Thanks all.
We do have a gas boiler but also have an (unlinked) carbon monoxide monitor in the utility room where the boiler is and that’s not going off. It’s also serviced annually before we turn the heating on so it’s due a service in the next few weeks. I don’t think they’re combined smoke/CO alarms, hence the separate CO alarm, but will…[Read more]

Used to work for fire prevention dept in the NHS. Little black beetles called thrips used to set the alarms off regularly. Is it the time of year or them? sometimes seem to get them when its muggy and thundery

If they are chirping but not actually sounding an alarm sounding then possibly they are detecting a fault in the system, or maybe there’s a fault in the system that is making them chirp in error.
Maybe this is due to a spiky/dirty/noisy mains power supply.
Are they detecting Carbon Monioxide perhaps ?
Are they just at end-of-life and need…[Read more]

Do you still have the ones that started chirping? If not connected to the mains, but running on the battery power, do they still chirp?
Have you put the correct battery type into them? Some specify to use certain types (I don’t mean have you put a 9V in, I mean specific rechargable ones, as far as I remember ours gave two options).

Maybe they are not playing you up, but telling you something? As above.

we had a similar issue.
Do you have a gas boiler, by any chance? If so, please get it checked -ours was way out of balance, and depending on which way the wind was blowing, was well on the way to killing us.

Long shot but can anyone help with a smoke alarm issue please?
About 2 months ago one of our 3 linked mains powered smoke alarms started chirping – just once and quite randomly, sometimes once every 15 minutes for an hour or so, sometimes just once and then not for days, sometimes twice. They have a battery back up so we changed the…[Read more]

I would do as you said about the B and B for next time and also set some kind of schedule, i.e., yes, you can come then, but then I have big commitments on for work/a show to go to/a visit to family, so I will be away as of X day.
Hopefully, the money thing will wear off. It’s obviously very new. I’d guess that in the end, it will either wear off…[Read more]

just remembered the time I had a, frankly barking, guest to stay. To get rid of her, as she was showing no signs of leaving, ever. I had to pretend I had been called away on business, pack up, put the dogs with my neighbour, etc and usher her out as I was ‘going away’. I then had to hide up the road for hours till I was sure she had gone. Guests,…[Read more]
