You are absolutely right, the sooner we get rid of this ideology driven set of ********* (no idea what I’ve starred out – I can’t think of a word bad enough!) he better. And now they’re trying to roll Universal Credit out all over, even though it is obvious that it isn’t working properly in the pilot areas, with claimants being left without access…[Read more]

Terrible story to read and I can quite believe how this can happen – even in this day and age !! Social services were very helpful when I phoned them to report vulnerable local person.

I hugged one of my neighbours today because she was packing up all their belongings into a white van and she was upset and crying in the street. I’m really not good at that kind of stuff!
They were evicted. Rent arrears. The husband lost his driving job because of an accident and she only works part-time. Both of them have learning difficulties…[Read more]

What a very sad situation. My Mother was absolutely vile to my Dad and it is a horrible thing to witness.
Will he be staying with you for Christmas? This sounds like the ideal opportunity to put things in motion without nagging or making him feel pressured. I would do all you can to prevent him returning there after Christmas.. even if you have…[Read more]

He comes to visit us quite often, and has a great time up here visiting all his friends and family. He is a real social butterfly, always has been, but also likes all the finer things he gets in Wiltshire, his friends down there are much posher and they go out to four star restaurants and so on. His original Essex friends (and family) would rather…[Read more]

How awful! You say your dad is getting frailer and has memory problems (has he been to the Memory Clinic)? Depending upon his needs, he may be a vulnerable adult, which is a whole new ball-game, but old age alone doesn’t make a person a vulnerable adult. Is he able to meet all of his needs independently (cooking, medication, self-care)?
She…[Read more]

Could you arrange to pick him up and have him visit you for a couple of days, when you could arrange for him to go round the retirement villages? Maybe once he saw them, he would be spurred on to sort something out?
Or could you go down to there to this woman’s place with a friend and tell her that she has to tell your father that he can’t live…[Read more]

Could you visit him? It might remind him how much he enjoys your company. You could then mention it to him again in a non nagging way and give him something to think about. What’s he doing for Christmas?
-
Sar replied to the topic Emotional abuse in the forum Chit chat 8 years ago
All you can do is lay the options out before him and leave him to make up his own mind. Nagging won’t do any good and I assume that you have tried the ‘We would really love to have you nearer to us’ approach, which would probably be more effective.

This may be very long – go and put the kettle on!
My parents divorced about 30 odd years ago. My Dad moved to Wiltshire to live (as in house share) with a friend who was also divorced. It was not a relationship in the accepted sense, but two people who didn’t want to live alone (her for financial reasons, Dad for emotional ones) and liked…[Read more] -

I believe the recruitment website of choice nowadays is Indeed, certainly we got lots of responses through it when we advertised. Don’t get too hung up on finding someone with the right experience, sometimes someone with no experience but the right aptitude and attitude can pick it up quickly. It’s so hard to find the right person, is it something…[Read more]

Whereabouts are you based? (pM me if you prefer). I might know a recruiter who could help.

There’ll be specialist recruitment agencies, rather than the more generic ‘local office’ type. I use agencies a lot. If you want to pm me I can ask a couple of my contacts for help.

Have you tried searching cvs? I think you can on sites like indeed/total jobs. Unsure how detailed the searching is but may be worth a look.

Thanks guys – our accountant is free-lance and has a handful of customers and is based miles away. He may know the best places to look but unlikely he’ll know anyone, he is well aware we need help. In fact he was also looking for help and mentioned it’s hard!

It’s the multi currency thing that’s hard. Especially when the contract is on one currency but invoicing can be in several.
I’d look at LinkedIN for folks with that experience

Do the local colleges teach this accounts software? Does your Accountant know anyone, or would they know of a trade magazine you could advertise in? There is always the local newspaper.
Your Accountant would probably be able to help with the second person.

Can any of you lovely lot help point me in the right direction before I have a breakdown??

Yes on a day I knew I wouldn’t be allowed a day off. Other guy had to pull up his socks and get some actual work done, I didn’t feel very guilty as I was usually the one propping him up!
Needed for an interview, which went very well and handed my notice in 2 days later.

I have added an extra day when have been ill but would never pull one to go anywhere , what a disaster if someone saw you or of anything happened when you were supposed to be at home . Not worth the risk tbh
