Can you commute by cycle instead? I used to bike through central London as a student, and it certainly woke me up for lectures! I got around quicker that if I had used public transport.

London is great for a while, but IMHO not for long term. How long do you need to hang in there careerwise to be able to get out advantageously?

I am awaiting a Yodel delivery. They have allegedly tried to deliver twice and left a card on both occasions. They are clearly lying as we were in, there are no cards and the motion alarm didn’t sound.
When I contacted customer services on ‘chat’, they asked for directions to to house. I pointed out if he’d left 2 cards, he knew full well where the property was!
Hermes have dropped off a parcel today, we really aren’t that hard to find.

Damp is somtimes it’s easy to fix but it can be messy and leave you needing to do plastering etc etc and because you need to do that it becomes a good idea to do xyz and so on .
This place is old and we live with a degree of rising damp .as long as non of the walls turn black with mould as long as I practise good housekeeping ( opening windows often and heatingnthe place ) it’s not a huge issue .
Try to find out if a buyer has had a survey done if so you may be able to get a look at it .
Going round with a builder is a good idea .
Get a good idea of what’s needed and the costs and see how you feel .
There’s always money to spend on a old place don’t be afraid to make an low offer .

Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed reply @sar
    Much appreciated.

The accountant has been recommended to us by someone who works in finance so we are hoping he’s good but since he’s not been in touch yet it’s hard to say

I was self employed myself in the past but the accountant wasn’t great so not using him again. I was a sole trader so things were quite simple but OH would be contracting, I forgot to say that. Not sure if that makes any difference?

    Thank you 🙂
There are some things there I’d not thought of. I’ll add them to my list. I really want him to go into this with his eyes open as it will be a big change for him and I think he’ll be surprised (shocked?!) when he has to pay for his own laptop and mobile, to name but two things your reply has made me think about.
